Rome Bike Tours
Discover Rome on two wheels!
The stories no bus window will ever give you
Tripadvisor lists over 1,000 outdoor activities in Rome; we rank first.
Rome bike tours have been our craft since 2007: routes redrawn every season to dodge the traffic and keep history at talking distance. Every guide passes a strict in-house exam on history, art, and safety—only the best make the cut, and tours run in six languages. On a Rome e-bike tour, the saddle under you is a Cannondale, kept like new.

FAQ
Is it safe to bike in Rome?
+
We place huge importance on the safety of everyone on our tours, and we do a lot of behind-the-scenes work (itinerary design, guide training, bike maintenance) to make them as safe as they can possibly be. With the right precautions, cycling can be the best way to see Rome. That said, safety also depends on each rider's ability to handle a bike. For this reason, all participants must be able to handle a bike with confidence and stay alert for the whole tour.
Is a Rome ebike tour tiring?
+
No. The electric motor makes pedaling much easier, and you choose how much it helps. Fitness is not a requirement: Rome is hilly, but its hills have never been easier to climb than on an e-bike.
Can children take part in your tours?
+
Yes. Please note, however, that for safety reasons infants under 1 year old cannot take part. From age 1, children may take part in the following ways:
-
Children weighing up to 22 kg may sit in a child seat on the back of a parent's bike.
-
Children weighing more than 22 kg may ride a tag-along (trailer bike) attached to a parent's bike.
-
From age 9, children who can ride a bike with confidence may ride one of our e-bikes.
Minors must always be accompanied by an adult.
Is there an ebike tour Rome first-timers should start with?
+
Rome Highlights: four hours from the Colosseum to the Villa Borghese gardens, a first map of the city that every later walk will use. Short on time? Top 12 Highlights of Rome covers the essentials in two and a half hours.
Where is the tour meeting and departure point?
+
All bike tours start at our shop, Via Labicana 49, in the city center, about 500 meters from the Colosseum. Detailed directions to the shop come with your booking confirmation.
5 reasons to do a Rome bike tour with us
The routes. About 70% traffic-free or limited-traffic; the rest chosen street by street, never by chance.
The guides. Strictly selected, trained at length, examined at the end: a long road before their first tour.
The bikes. Cannondale e-bikes checked by our mechanics after every ride; comfortable saddles, and anti-puncture tires that stop about nine flats in ten.
The groups. Questions get answered, nobody rides in a crowd. Our group Rome bike tours never exceed ten riders; the average group is about six.
The care. Helmet, handlebar bag and biodegradable water bottle for everyone — and nobody left behind.
On the road you will count more than 5 reasons to do a bike tour in Rome with us — these are the ones we would defend anywhere. One more, for the weather: if it rains, you choose — another day at no extra cost, a full refund, or the ride as planned, with a poncho for everyone. And one for the youngest: children in a child seat ride free.
The best bike tours in Rome, and the numbers behind the claim
Tripadvisor lists nearly 3,000 tour operators in Rome; we rank second among all of them, and first among the 1,000-plus outdoor activities. Those rankings are not slogans for the wall: they are re-earned on every single tour.
Any bike tour in Rome with a local guide is only as good as the local: ours must pass the exam before they may lead. The exam is selective on purpose. After the tour, it is your turn to rate them.
Electric, and glad of it
The Eternal City is seven hills pretending to be flat; a Rome e-bike tour turns them into scenery. You pedal — the electric motor smooths the effort, from eco to turbo as you choose — and the conversation survives every climb.
For the heart of the city we run four e-bike tours: Rome Highlights, Top 12 Highlights of Rome, Rome by Night, Rome in 1 Day. Different start times and durations, same idea: history at conversation pace. And when the views decide, Panoramic Rome climbs the Janiculum: the best e-bike tour Rome keeps for photographers.
Outside the walls, the ground changes. Twenty-seven kilometers, six in ten of them on dirt tracks and park paths, and a difficulty level marked Intermediate. That is the Ancient Appian Way ride, the one our guests keep rating as the best electric bike tour Rome can offer: about fifty meters on the original basalt paving, 2,300 years old, and the rest of the Appian Way on the dirt paths beside it, catacombs on the six-hour version, then the Park of the Aqueducts. Seven aqueducts run through it, the Aqua Claudia among them — mostly ruins, though the Acqua Felice still carries water.
Safe by design
A Rome bicycle tour with us is engineered before it is ridden: traffic-free stretches stitched together, streets chosen at the hour they are quietest. The pace keeps the group together; the guide keeps the story going.
Every ride is marked Leisure or Intermediate.
A Rome cycle tour asks only that you be confident on a bike and stay alert.
What you will see
This city is best seen from a saddle, and Rome bike & cycling tours — one thing under two names — show it at the speed of a good story.
Between them, the tours take in — and this is only a sample — the Colosseum and the Imperial Forums, the Pantheon and Piazza Navona, Trastevere, the Aventine orange garden, St. Peter's Square, Castel Sant'Angelo, the Appian Way and its catacombs, the Park of the Aqueducts on the same ride. Each tour page lists its own route, stop by stop.
But the best Rome bike tour with a local guide is more than a list of sights. What the guide adds is the part no page can print.
Departures and the best light
Bike Tours Rome–Italy: every departure from Via Labicana 49.
Directions and the exact starting time arrive with the booking confirmation; the shop is a five-minute walk from the Colosseum and, from Termini station, two metro stops plus a short walk. A few tours leave before the shop opens at ten; if yours does, the booking confirmation says so.
Afternoon bike tours in Rome carry the best light of the day — the travertine goes gold, the fountains catch it. Evenings answer with the Rome by Night ride, dinner optional. The crowds thin, the monuments are lit, the air cools.
Many search from abroad with the country attached — "bike tour Rome Italy" — and that search, too, ends at our doorway.
